Your Newborn Photoshoot Questions Answered

Find answers to common questions about preparing for your newborn’s photoshoot.

When is the best time to schedule a newborn photoshoot?

The ideal time for a newborn photoshoot is within the first two weeks after birth because babies are still very sleepy and flexible and can be easily posed.

How long does a newborn photoshoot typically last?

Newborn sessions with me usually last between 2 to 4 hours to allow for plenty of time for feeding/changing your baby as well as the posing aspect too.

What should I bring to the photoshoot?

We recommend bringing lots of nappies, wipes, and any special outfits or props you’d like to include in the session.  You may need extra milk for baby due to the nature of the photoshoot.  The room can be warm so baby may need more milk than normal.

Can siblings and parents be included in the photoshoot?

Absolutely! We encourage family members to join in and capture those precious family moments.

What should my baby wear for the photoshoot?

Bring baby in a button down sleepsuit so it’s easy to remove if baby is asleep when you get here.  I have a cupboard full of outfits and wraps for baby so only bring extra outfits if you have something specific in mind.

Do you offer in-home newborn photoshoots?

This isn’t necessarily something I am offering currently, however please do get in touch to see how I can best help you.

What if my baby is fussy during the session?

Don’t worry! We take breaks as needed to ensure your baby is comfortable and happy throughout the session.

How soon will we receive our photos after the session?

Your gallery viewing session will be booked in within 2-3 weeks following our session together.  This is where you come to view your images and design any wall art together.

What safety measures are in place during the photoshoot?

I am fully trained in safe newborn posing and hold full insurance too.  I am first aid trained and keep up to date with training throughout the year.

We take breaks for baby and you too.  If baby has any medical issues, please do discuss these with me prior to our session together.

I was recommended to Nicki by a work friend. We booked in to have a newborn shoot with her. She is very friendly, and made me feel that my newborn was in safe hands.

She creates a relaxed, and caring environment for the shoot, where the baby is the no.1 priority. She offers snacks and drinks to keep us parents going throughout the shoot.

Prepare for Your Baby's Arrival

Essential Hospital Bag Checklist

Knowing what to pack in your maternity hospital bag can be quite daunting.  How much will I need?  Will three suitcases be enough? Be best prepared with our comprehensive guide on what to pack for the hospital. Ensure you have everything you need for a smooth and comfortable experience.

Why Packing Right Matters

The Importance of a Well-Prepared Hospital Bag

As your due date approaches, having a well-packed hospital bag read to go can make all the difference. It ensures that you have all the essentials for both comfort and practicality, reducing stress and allowing you to focus on welcoming your new baby.

From personal items to baby necessities, each item plays a crucial role in making your hospital stay as pleasant as possible. Planning ahead can help you feel more in control and ready for this  moment.  Preparation here is key!

Must-Have Hospital Bag Items

Comfortable Clothing

Pack loose-fitting, comfortable clothes for your stay, including a robe and slippers for walking around the ward.

Toiletries

Include travel-sized body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, and other personal hygiene items.  You might want to take shampoo and conditioner too.

Important Documents

You may want to bring any paperwork that’s related to your pregnancy that might have been given to you by your midwives.

Snacks and Drinks

If you’re like me, this is important!  Pack some snacks and drinks to keep your energy up during labour and recovery.  Snacks for any birthing partners are a good idea too!

Baby Clothes

Include a few outfits for your newborn, such as baby grows, vests and a going-home outfit.  You’ll want a blanket for the journey home too!

Nursing Supplies

No matter how you choose to feed baby, you’ll need something.  You’ll want breast pads, post partum pads and some formula if you’re choosing to bottle feed.  I found the premade formula bottles best for hospital stays.

Entertainment

Bring books, magazines, or a tablet to help pass the time during your stay.

Phone Charger

Ensure you have a charger for your phone to stay connected with loved ones.

Comfort Items for a Relaxing Hospital Stay

Preparing for childbirth can be overwhelming, but bringing a few comfort items can make your hospital stay more pleasant. Consider packing a cozy blanket or pillow from home to help you relax, especially if you use a pillow between your legs when sleeping. A soothing playlist or a favorite book can provide a welcome distraction. Don’t forget to include some snacks and a water bottle to keep you nourished and hydrated. Comfortable clothing and slippers are also essential for moving around the hospital with ease and dignity.

Baby's Essentials Checklist

Baby Grows

Pack several soft baby grows for your newborn to wear during the hospital stay.

Swaddle Blankets

Bring a couple of swaddle blankets to keep your baby snug and secure.

Nappies

Ensure you have enough newborn-sized nappies for your baby’s first days.

Baby Wipes

Baby wipes are essential for quick and easy clean-ups.  You may want some muslin squares during feeding too.

Hat and Mittens

A hat and mittens will help keep your baby warm and comfortable.

Car Seat

Don’t forget the car seat for your baby’s safe journey home.

Dummies

Consider bringing a dummy to soothe your newborn if this is something you are choosing to do.

Nursing Pillow

A nursing pillow can provide support during feeding times.

Supportive Partner Packing Guide

Essential Items for Partners During Hospital Stay

Partners play a crucial role in supporting the mother during childbirth. To ensure you’re prepared, pack a few essentials for yourself. Comfortable clothing will keep you at ease. Consider bringing snacks and a refillable water bottle to stay energized. A camera or smartphone is a must for capturing those first precious moments. Don’t forget chargers for your devices. A list of important contacts and a notebook can be handy for jotting down any instructions or memorable moments. Finally, a small gift for the new mother can be a thoughtful gesture to show your appreciation and support.
