About me

If you won’t embrace my madness, you won’t get to see the magic

Hi!

I’m Nicki and I am the face behind Nicki Byrne Photography.  I absolutely love being able to capture such precious memories for my families and providing stunning wall art for them to treasure.

I love being creative and putting together beautfiul set ups that are meaningful to you and  will look gorgeous together up on your walls.  I do love more simple set ups where the focus is on the baby/child/family however it’s great to add a bit of fun in there too.  None of my set ups are the same  – sometimes similar – and I work closely with you when designing my sets to make sure they reflect you and your family in the best possible way.

I believe it’s important to get to know you and your family.  How can you tell someone’s story without truly knowing it?  Capturing a family’s memories is so personal which is why I include a consultation meeting before the photoshoot where we can discuss colours, themes, styles and everything inbetween.

My Story

I trained at university to become a primary school teacher, a job I loved for 12 years. My husband bought me my first ‘proper’ camera and the obsession for collecting lenses and other camera equipment began. Learning to use a DSLR can be tricky – there’s a lot to know about composition, lighting and the different functions of the camera.  So I decided to enrol on a course to teach me how to get out of ‘Auto’ mode. This is how taking photos can get creative!  I also learned about studio lighting and portraits. From then on, I began taking bookings using the studio in Fazeley.  I photographed weddings at the weekends and during the holidays alongside teaching – I do always have to keep busy!

In 2018, my newborn photography journey began with training with Claire Elliott at Newborn Baby Posing Ltd as part of a qualification course with the Guild of Photographers. My passion for photography combined with my teacher patience and creativity now could come together! Since then, I’ve been incredibly lucky to have had in-person training with the amazingly talented Kelly Brown, who has won ‘International Newborn Photographer of the year’ for several years, online training with Ana Brandt at the Baby Belly Summit and in July 2020 training with outdoor photography expert Lisa McCormick in Sunderland.

My husband and I have two children: Sienna who is 5 and Lucas who is 3.  As a mum, I know how important it is to record those special moments.  Our children change so quickly – right in front of our eyes.

I’m really looking forward to getting to know you and telling your story,

Nicki x
